Yes, but this site has a difference. First, it is entirely devoted to French wine. Second, it is where pertinent information on the French wine culture and system is explained, in simple English. By accessing Edwin’s French Wine Bar online anyone who is interested to learn more about French wine can do so easily - never be intimidated again by wine jargons or wine experts.

I’m no expert myself, not having any academic background in wine study (not even a Sommelier – a qualification for a wine waiter in France and certainly not a Master of Wine, the highest qualification in the UK). I’m completely self-taught: driven by my passion; aided by conscientious study of wine books and learnt by practical experience gained from visiting vineyards and wine fairs.

First step I took was to come live in France and learned the language. Second step was to put my knowledge to the test by opening Bar à Vins Edwin (Edwin’s Wine Bar) 3 years ago in Lyon: stocking quality French wines, in a French city, for French customers. The result up to now: my bar is thriving so I have no recourse to complain.

As owner of my bar and as the wine-person-in-residence my French clients often consult me on ordering from my wine list. Often I’m asked to match glasses of wines with their chosen menu. Which is very flattering and it has given me the idea in publishing my knowledge and experience on a website.

Before we embark on this quest of wine enlightenment here’s my simple advice: always trust your own taste (because you’re the one who’s drinking) and let no one, least of all an expert to tell you otherwise.
